Tracy Shand, author of Boardingology, explores the powers of words and actions
Tracy Shand
Did you set a new year professional resolution last summer? Did you achieve it? As we approach the end of the academic year, it is time to reflect on the year that was. As you know, actions speak louder than words. It is time for you to grab a pen and paper, and unleash the power of three words – audit, now and yet.
Audit
You don’t need to go to the finance office for this one. Take your paper and draw 11 boxes, each one representing a month of this school year. Some people prefer 11 pieces of paper, so make a choice that works for you. Now, inside the box write down the key points of your month. What went well? What did not go so well?
What curve balls did you have? Just step back, reflect and write. Put it away for 24 hours and then add to it. You can even add specific boxes such as career, wellbeing or something unique to you.
Now
Look at your year! Your year in black and white. What actions do you need to take now to make the next school year easier or better? You are about to get a big space of time that belongs to you. What three things do you need to invest in to make things better for you? Books, courses or finding what works for you to be well.
Yet
One word that can change your world. What things have you not mastered yet? How can you do it?
Thank you for your contribution to the educational world this year. Enjoy your best summer… yet.
