Wall art ideas for your boarding houses

Sponsored: Promote Your School share their ideas about how to transform your pupils’ living space with wall art

Boarding house wall art can transform your pupils’ living space.

From your furniture to your walls, there’s a lot you can do to create a warm and welcoming space for boarders to enjoy.

It’s important to create a unique space that pupils want to spend time in. For many parents, the boarding environment is the most critical factor in making their decision about which school to choose.

If you’re an independent school looking for practical ways to enrich your visual environment, inspire learning and delight pupils, read on…

A sense of belonging

Recently we spoke at an IE webinar about how to create a sense of belonging for students and improve wellbeing.

Specifically, we talked about how to use wall art to:

  • Promote the ethos and values of your school
  • Boost attainment through designs that complement your curriculum
  • Enhance your learning environment
  • Improve wellbeing through nature themes
  • Create a sense of belonging and community for students and staff
  • Create a backdrop for marketing, recruitment and virtual open day videos

While many of these principles apply to your day students, it’s equally (if not more) important to do the same for your boarders.

This is because making the transition to boarding can be daunting for children (and their parents), so it’s important to create a home-from-home environment for them.

Creating a safe and welcoming space is also important for pupils’ health and happiness; it can affect their learning outcomes too, as we know that happier children learn better.

With this in mind, it’s helpful to involve students in the design process. Find out what matters to them and the type of imagery and messages that they would want to see on their boarding house walls.

Showcase what makes your school great

We’re delighted that our boarding house wall art contributed towards Summer Fields School getting Highly Commended at the BSA Awards 2021 in the Boarding House Extension or Refurbishment category.

And, when you check out photos of their stunning boarding houses, it’s easy to see why!

Through a mix of inspiring wall art, furniture and themed designs, their boarding house is an engaging and enchanting space for students to enjoy.

Students and staff at Summer Fields contributed to the design, writing their own newspaper headlines

Summer Fields has taken a phased approach to their wall art, with a Harry Potter theme for their younger students. To make the space truly unique, students and staff wrote witty newspaper headlines, which we included within the designs.

Now students have a totally personalised and unique space to call home, with a good dose of humour thrown into the mix.

More recently, we created bespoke designs with a sports theme for older years at Summer Fields. The designs include motivational quotes, inspiring images and a positive image of sports and fitness.

The beauty of bespoke wall art is that we can tailor the designs to your school and pupils based on their education stage and your school objectives.
