A small but perfectly formed facility

SPONSORED: Absolute Performance explains how they transformed Ampleforth College’s strength and conditioning outbuilding

The Task

Absolute Performance (AP) were given the task of transforming the tired strength and conditioning outbuilding into a training facility that Ampleforth College could be proud of.

As part of a drive to improve overall athletic performance and sporting results, Ampleforth College took the step to recruit specialist Strength and Conditioning Coach, Jack Miles – a new position within the school. Next step – improving the facilities. AP was delighted to be appointed by Jack, and Director of Rugby, Will James, to design and refurbish the outbuildings that held the small S&C facility.

With limited space it was going to be a big challenge!

The Solution

With space at a premium, the key to this facility was always going to be keeping the different flooring solutions zoning the areas of the gym, level.

A clearly defined functional training area, laid with AP Evolution turf, now sits alongside the new lifting area, providing a space for functional activity including pre-hab and re-hab. The turf leads neatly on to a 10m sled track, again in AP Evolution turf. All the time, the unique use of the various zones is easily identifiable.

The lifting area incorporates six Werksan Lionfit half racks, in Ampleforth colours, set over profiled oak platforms, and branded Werksan plates. To ensure maximum use of space, the 30mm rubber flooring of the lifting area neatly transitions to a sled track.

The Result

A small but perfectly formed S&C facility – fully branded with Ampleforth colours to provide a look and feel unique to the school.

“We are delighted with our new high-performance suite, which will enable us to host a programme of morning and after-school strength and conditioning sessions that form a vital element in enhancing our sporting performance and developing a lifelong attitude towards health and wellbeing,” said Jack Miles, Strength and Conditioning Coach.
