Wilson Vale wins school catering award

James Goodwin, a Wilson Vale chef manager at the Mount School in York, has been named Independent School Caterer of the Year 2014

James Goodwin, who lives in Copmanthorpe, works for Wilson Vale at The Mount School in Dalton Terrace, York, an independent boarding school for girls, where he manages a team of 17 staff and a busy catering operation for 300 pupils ranging in age from three to 18, including 90 boarders. He received the Independent School Caterer of the Year title at the Educatering Excellence Awards ceremony in Kensington in October.

Andrew Wilson, co-founder of Wilson Vale, said: “This award is a wonderful endorsement of our fresh food ethos at Wilson Vale and of the standards we set for ourselves right across the business. James and his team work tirelessly to ensure that food standards at The Mount School are superb and credit must also go to Phil Hindmarch, our area manager, for his support and direction to James and his team.

“James has won the hearts of his young customers, his client and his team through great people skills, natural leadership and innovation. This goes far beyond craft skills, which he has in abundance. It’s about commitment, passion and genuine interest and respect for his customers.”

James said: “Winning this award wouldn’t have been possible without my hard-working team and support from The Mount School and Wilson Vale. I feel very proud to have been recognised in this way.”

Graeme Oliver, bursar at The Mount School, said: “We are delighted but not surprised that James has won this accolade. For the past four years The Mount has enjoyed working with Wilson Vale, which is a company at the very top of its game.”
