Rydal Penrhos’ youngest children have been doing their bit to help the environment after lending support to a nationwide initiative.
The Early Years group took part in the Great British Beach Clean, organised by the Marine Conservation Society and centred on beaches and coastlines up and down the country.
Led by staff, the children spend a considerable amount of time along the Colwyn Bay shore, picking up litter, improving the overall condition of the area, and generally enjoying being outdoors.
This was undertaken as part of the institution’s Coastal School scheme, giving children an opportunity to learn more about their surroundings on a weekly basis.
Early Years’ Head, Louise Roberts, said: “The Great British Beach Clean was a great way for our children to take part and understand the effects litter has on our beaches and marine life. They were able to find and point out different types of rubbish, such as plastic and glass, which we teachers then put in a rubbish bag.”
Following their clean-up efforts, Mrs Roberts presented an assembly to the entire Pre-Prep contingent, highlighting the effects rubbish and waste have on the environment and species around our coastline.
