Three Brentwood alumni awarded Birthday Honours

Queen’s prestigious honours for Former Deputy Head, director of music and football star

Three of Brentwood School’s most prominent figures were given awards in the Queen’s recent Birthday Honours.

Along with Frank Lampard, who attended the School from 1989 to 1994, who was awarded an OBE for services to football, and former pupil and retired Director of Music David Pickthall who received an MBE for services to education and to charity; Nigel Carr, who has just retired as Deputy Head of the School, received a Chief of General Staff’s Commendation for his outstanding service over more than 36 years with the Brentwood School Combined Cadet Force (CCF).

Nigel Carr served as Contingent Commander from 1988-1997, 2000-2001 and 2008-2012, despite having no previous military experience. In addition to his Contingent responsibilities,  he has recently been instrumental in fostering the establishment of a new CCF in a local Grammar School, and has served with distinction for many years with regional responsibilities as a member of the East Anglian Reserve Forces and Cadets Association Committee.

His outstanding leadership has resulted in Brentwood School (CCF) growing to become one of the largest CCFs in the country.

Headmaster, Ian Davies, added: “Lt Col CARR presents a powerful, inspirational role model to his staff and cadets, setting exemplary standards of commitment, integrity and loyalty, earning him the respect of his peers. His time with Brentwood School CCF has been marked by consistent achievement and dedication beyond duty, and his impact has been significant and sustained. His legacy will remain as an excellent foundation for the continued success for the School’s CCF, and it is fitting that this be recognised by such a Commendation.”
