Table tennis success for prep school

Edge Grove School hosts national prep schools’ table tennis championships

Edge Grove is celebrating its pupils’ sporting achievements this week following the hosting of the National Prep Schools’ Table Tennis championships.

The national event saw 112 boys and girls from 22 schools battle it out for the under 11 and under 13 national individual titles.

Ben Evans, headmaster at Edge Grove, commented: “The standard of table tennis was fantastic and just improved as the day went on.  We are very impressed by our children who should be extremely proud of their achievements.  It was also great to see so many schools and talented children coming together for what was a very enjoyable competition.”

Edge Grove player Cordy O’Sullivan competed in the girls U11 category and progressed to the semi-finals, finishing in fourth place overall. Edge Grove’s TJ O’Sullivan went a step further to finish in third place overall in the boys U13 category. Students Udo Ekpecham, Harry Govind and Harry Walshe also played in the boys U13 category and both Harrys reached the last 16 stage of the knock-out competition. In the boys U11 tournament, students Ishaan Patel, Yash Patel, Daniel Elson and Lewis Beer represented Edge Grove with aplomb. Yash was knocked out in the round of 16 and Lewis made it through to the quarter-finals.

Evans concluded: “A big thank you must go to Mr Craxton and Mr McManus for running such a successful event and to all of the Edge Grove staff and parents who helped make the event a resounding success.”
