Stepnell’s Wantage team has just begun work on the distinctive two-storey steel-framed 1,050 sqm building at Summer Fields in Oxford, the boarding and day school for boys aged eight to thirteen.
The facility will house modern changing rooms and cloakroom facilities, a spacious and adaptable ground-floor foyer and a large multi-purpose first-floor suite with spectators’ balcony overlooking the school grounds. Design features include natural limestone external wall facing. Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof.
The Stepnell team, which has a strong track record in working in ‘live’ school environments, was awarded the scheme through a competitive tendering process.
Designed by architectural practice BBLB Corstorphine + Wright, the pavilion is set for completion in summer 2015.
Stepnell contracts manager Dave Mawby says: “This project will create a first-class modern multi-use Sports Pavilion which will further enhance Summer Fields’ excellent facilities. Our focus throughout the construction programme will be on working closely with Summer Fields to ensure minimum disruption to the daily life of the school.”
