Mr Martin Reader has taken the helm of Cranleigh School.
“I am absolutely delighted to be taking over the helm of such a special school,” said Mr Reader. “When I first arrived, I was struck by the warmth and inclusiveness of the family atmosphere here and I’m grateful to the former head, Guy Waller, for what he has achieved.”
Guy Waller retired this summer after 17 years’ service to the school. Mr Reader joins after eight years as headmaster of Wellington School in Somerset. But it’s a return to Surrey for him and his family. Along with his wife Amanda and children Abbie, 14, and Cameron, 12, he previously lived in Cranleigh when he was deputy headmaster of Reigate Grammar School.
“I join Cranleigh at a really exciting time for the school,” continued Mr Reader. “Academic results are the best they have ever been; the school boasts national championship-winning sports teams and musicians and actors are performing at the highest level. The launch of Cranleigh Abu Dhabi brings added richness and an exchange of ideas and culture to enhance our traditional local boarding environment.
“As we prepare for our 150th anniversary in 2015, we’re ambitious for the future of Cranleigh, whilst remaining committed to an ethos over a century in the making, an ethos which puts the lives and futures of Cranleighans above all else.”
