The three awards are:
- the Primary Language Teacher of the Award 2015
- the Secondary Language Teacher of the Year Award 2015
- the Student Language Ambassador of the Year Award 2015
The aim of the teacher award scheme is to support and promote language teaching and to raise the profile of language teaching as a career. The teacher awards will recognise exciting, motivating practice among language teachers, celebrating imaginative teaching that inspires language learning in pupils.
Additionally they will recognise language teachers who make an exemplary contribution to the profession by inspiring colleagues to develop their practice to provide a stimulating languages’ curriculum.
The aim of the Student Language Ambassador of the Year Award is to recognise the creativity, commitment and initiative of student language ambassadors who have encouraged, enthused and inspired language learners, as part of a Routes into Languages Programme.
ALL’s President, René Koglbauer, commented: “What a fantastic initiative to celebrate examples of good practice across the languages community in English schools. With Routes into Languages and the Association for Language Learning, two renowned organisations are coming together to highlight to the profession, as well as the wider community, the dedication of language teachers and Routes Student Language Ambassadors to inspire our future generation. I urge all school leaders, colleagues and pupils to join in by nominating their language teacher and/or Routes Student Language Ambassador.”
Professor Michael Kelly OBE, Director of Routes into Languages commented: “I am delighted that this award will recognise the outstanding work of teachers and student language ambassadors in languages. I know that there will be some exceptional nominations and I don’t envy the panel having to choose between them.”
