Junior fencing victory

A St Swithun’s School pupil has taken the under-14 epee honours at the national Public Schools’ Fencing Championships 2015

Jacqueline Oien from London, a 13-year-old weekly boarding pupil from St Swithun’s School in Winchester, came first in the under-14 girls’ Mount-Haes epee class of the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. Jacqueline competed for St Swithun’s against approximately 50 other girls and completed 10 fights in two rounds of pools, followed by wins in a direct elimination stage.

Having taken up fencing four years ago, Jacqueline also recently won second place in the under-15 junior series epee class at the Leon Paul Fencing Centre in London, whilst competing as one of the youngest competitors against 15 other fencers.

She trains weekly at St Swithun’s and as a member of Haverstock Fencing Club in London.
