Five Year 8 pupils at Rydal Penrhos – Henry Battersby, Chay Bonnington, Jacob Cousins, Noah Langford and Gregor Perry – have teamed up to compete in the First Lego League, a global engineering challenge for children aged nine to 16.
They have been spending a number of sessions at the Design and Technology department attempting to complete a challenge using Lego Mindstorms, including designing, building and programming a robot to complete variety of tasks.
Gap year student Ieuan Franssens, who has been working with the group, said: “As well as this challenge, the pupils have to come up with an innovative solution to an engineering problem we as humans face. They will then have to present their findings to a panel of judges at a tournament.
“In this tournament they will compete against other teams to see which robot can complete the most tasks in two and a half minutes. They have all done a fantastic job so far and they are working brilliantly as a team.”
The five pupils are using social media as a way for people to track their progress via their very own Instagram account, which can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/rps_firstlegoleague/
