Pedals to the metal

Queen's School raises more than £2,000 for a children's heart charity with a cycle ride to London

A team of year 11 girls set off with teachers on the last day of term to complete their 200-mile journey from Chester to London

The Queen's to Queen (Q2Q) bike ride is now an annual tradition and part of the school's Fitness For All strategy, to encourage all girls to see sport and fitness as part of their life.

This year the team encountered flat tyres, wet weather and some very sore limbs - but arrived at their destination after nearly a week of pedalling.

The team was very grateful to schools that offered accommodation and food en route, which enabled more funds to go directly to the charity.

Head of Sport and Fitness at the school, Gemma Glynn, was one of the teachers accompanying the trip. She said: "The girls were absolutely magnificent; a real credit to themselves, their families and the school.

"We had all done the training but cycling a long way on one day is very different to cycling long distances for nearly a week.

"We were all pretty sore and exhausted by the end of it, but it was completely worth it!"

The team are fundraising for the Little Hearts Matter charity at justgiving.com/teams/q2q3
