Lord Wandsworth cycle coast to coast for charity

Pupils and staff at Lord Wandsworth College complete challenging John O'Groats to Land's End cycle trip

Posted by Stephanie Broad | September 24, 2016 | School life

A group of energetic pupils and staff from Lord Wandsworth College spent ten days over the summer cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End in the school’s 13th annual charity cycle tour.

These cycling trips have now raised almost £30,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) which supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families.

The pupils, aged between 15 and 18, cycled distances of up to 120 miles per day in order to achieve their feat within 10 days. The route took them through stunning landscapes in Scotland, over daunting climbs such as the Kirkstone Pass in the Lake District and through the relentless dips and climbs of the West Country. Helped by a largely favourable wind and improving weather, the group showed extraordinary determination and resilience day after day.

Headmaster, Adam Williams, said, “This was a phenomenal achievement by a remarkable group of young men and their highly supportive teachers. We are proud of the way our pupils take on diverse and original challenges and embrace the chance to develop themselves whilst raising money for a vital charity.”
