Gluten off the menu for school caterers?

KNORR gravy has teamed up with top chef, Phil Vickery, to run a gluten-free masterclass especially for school caterers

Over half of school caterers would like to offer more gluten-free dishes according to new research from KNORR.

The survey of over 1,200 chefs also asked if they currently had gluten-free meals on their menu, to which nearly a quarter (22%) of school caterers said no.

As a result, KNORR gravy has teamed up with top chef, Phil Vickery to run a gluten-free masterclass especially for school caterers. The masterclass will take place on 15 June 2015 from 10am-2pm in the KNORR Kitchen in Leatherhead, Surrey.

In the interactive session, Phil will be demonstrating how easy it is to make gluten-free food without compromising on taste. Attendees will also get the opportunity to sample Phil’s dishes, get some top tips on preparing gluten-free food and find out how other caterers in the sector are managing to cater for special dietary requirements.

Leon Mills, KNORR marketing manager, said: “According to Coeliac UK, 1 in every 100 children in the UK has coeliac disease and has to follow a strict gluten-free diet or risk getting ill. These kids don’t want to be stigmatised at meal times. We want to help schools make sure all school children are able to enjoy the same school meals.

“Our research showed that school caterers want to add more gluten-free dishes to their menu, but cost and limited recipe inspiration are big barriers. That’s why we’ve put together this masterclass, to help give caterers the inspiration and tips they need to create simple, dishes that all kids can enjoy."

KNORR has also created gluten-free guides which will be available on the day and from www.ufs.com.
