Young biathletes from Ashville’s Senior and Junior School in Harrogate have been crowned national team champions.

The combined scores of the school’s U11 boys team was enough to see them lift the title at the British Schools Biathlon Championships, held at Crystal Palace.

Eight young Ashvillians were competing in the tournament, and all recorded personal best times in the pool, on the track, or both.

From the senior school, Charlotte Parris was ranked ninth in the run and finished 15th over all. Finlay Waligora was ranked 12th after the swim and 27th overall, with Fred Paxton placed fifty-ninth.

Junior school pupils Sadie Pringle (U10s) was ranked 57th after the swim and Nicola Crack (U11s) was ranked 72nd out of 176 competitors.

During the weekend, U11 Lucas Waligora was ranked third after the swim and finished seventh overall. Jake Normanshire ended the games 13th whilst Johnny Scott ranked 12th.

Their combined points total of 5,257 resulted in them topping the table and carrying away the national title.

Duncan Archer, Ashville College’s Head of Sport Development, said: “This was a remarkable achievement and a fantastic result for Lucas, Jake and Johnny.

“We went to the championships with high hopes and our young biathletes did not let us down.

“All eight boys and girls who travelled down to Crystal Palace performed brilliantly. They have trained very hard to reach this stage and I’m proud of all of them.”
