The
new LG Network Monitor is a virtual computing
solution for schools that reduces costs, maintenance
and energy consumption by allowing multiple users
to share a single host PC. The host computer
acts as a server, with up to eleven users independently
running the software application of their choice
via LG desktop monitors.
Connecting several monitors
to one host PC reduces energy spending, as
each individual screen draws considerably
less power. A normal terminal draws between
15-80 watts, while the LG network monitor
reducing this to between 1-5watts. This has
means that a school can potentially lower
its annual energy cost by almost 80%.
The LG Network Monitor has
been developed to meet the growing demand for
a low cost solution to the PC replacement cycle.
Purchasing an LG Network Monitor to include
11 desktop monitors, keyboards, mice and software
is 60% cheaper than a comparable computer system
comprising 10 stand alone PCs. In addition,
with only one host PC to manage, repair, maintenance,
and upgrade costs can be reduced by almost
90% over a five-year period.
With every pupil able to
have just a monitor, keyboard and mouse on
their desks, the space-saving advantages of
the Network Monitor system are obvious. Additionally,
benefits include reducing the time spent booting
the computer system as the monitor can be powered
up in less than 15 seconds, meaning valuable
lesson time is not lost. Peripheral connections
on the host PC, such as USB ports, can be assigned
to individual users or accessible across the
network. This feature ensures personal data
remains safe but devices such as printers can
be shared.
The system is compatible
with all popular software including Windows
and LINUX, making it simple to install and
easy to set up. Power can be provided through
Cap 5 and 6 LAN cables instead of through a
separate power line and all users can access
the Internet through a single Internet line
connected to the host PC.
