 Former England Rugby Union Captain and BBC Question of Sport Team Captain, Matt Dawson was put through his paces at Cheadle Hulme School, meeting Sports Scholars, Infant chefs and tough quiz opponents.
Matt visited CHS as an Ambassador for Sodexo, the company which provides all the catering for the School, as part of its Healthy Eating and Wellbeing agenda.
First stopping at the Junior School, Matt was put through his paces with a specially arranged game of A Question of Food. The adaptation of the popular BBC quiz saw Matt and a team of Year 6 pupils battle it out over various rounds relating to healthy foods. The closely fought competition came down to a nail-biting tie-break, with Matt’s team winning by a point.
Matt was then welcomed into the new Infant activity kitchen at the School, officially opening the new facility and helping Year 1 children create their very own versions of Matt’s Edible Fluffy Sheep recipe, before a chance encounter with the giant version of the sheep created by the Infants.
In the Senior School, Matt had the opportunity to discuss the science behind sports food nutrition in an informal discussion with over 60 sports team Captains and six Sports Scholars from Year 7. All pupils gained a valuable insight into competing at an international level and how to maintain the perfect diet for top level sports performance.
Mr Rob Lawton, Catering Manager for Sodexo at Cheadle Hulme School, who organised the visit said: “It was a great pleasure to welcome Matt. He gave some valuable and insightful advice to all the pupils and was a great sport.
“We work closely with staff across the School to help promote healthy eating and this was a really fun way of engaging our pupils.”
