Bruton School for Girls Pupils Sample Life On Board

Over thirty Bruton School for Girls pupils were privileged to spend the day aboard HMS Liverpool whilst the Royal Navy destroyer was alongside in London last month.
HMS Liverpool, a 30 year old destroyer, docked in London prior to being decommissioned this spring.
The girls were escorted around the ship by female members of the ship’s company, viewing the cramped conditions in which the crew must operate when at sea.
During the visit students learnt about the role the vessel played during 7 months on deployment off the coast of Libya in 2011, becoming the first British ship to be fired on in 30 years.
Headmaster, John Burrough, said “We were fortunate to receive the invitation to visit HMS Liverpool. The girls enjoyed the experience, which was truly educational and gave them a far better understanding of what it is to serve in the Royal Navy, to be at sea and to be involved on active service. We are most grateful to Commander Colin Williams and his colleagues and wish them well as they prepare to bid farewell to their ship.”
