Nestling in the Yorkshire Dales, Giggleswick School is one of the UK’s oldest and most well known independent schools, and its distinctive uniform of black blazers with red pinstripes can be seen around the village and school grounds, as well as at away matches all over the North of England.
Giggleswick parents and pupils alike are now able to have an even better shopping experience at their dedicated, on-site, school shop, which is in an attractive Yorkshire stone-fronted building, refurbished and managed by the John Cheatle Group.
Giggleswick, which boasts alumni such as the late TV presenter Richard Whiteley, had been running its own school shop in another part of the school for some time. Long-term shop managers Susan Bellis and Barbara Cilgram are continuing to run the new shop.
Susan commented: “It felt a bit strange at first not to be ordering stock on the phone, but I’ve got used to it now, and having John Cheatle maintain the stock levels means we can focus on providing the best customer service. We’ve had some favourable feedback from parents on the look of the new shop and the site itself, and we’re now able to accept payments by card too, so it’s working well.”
The new Giggleswick school shop opened just in time for the start of the busy Back to School shopping period, keeping Susan and Barbara very busy; as Susan confirmed, planning was crucial.
“We had to ensure we had sufficient supplies whilst getting used to the new shop and learning how to operate the fabulous new till. It now means we no longer have to record every sale by hand!”
The John Cheatle Group is the largest supplier of schoolwear to the independent schools sector. Based in Leicester, with retail outlets throughout the North and North-West, school shops all over the UK from Bath to Blyth, Cardiff to Cambridge, and a highly efficient online service, it is still a family-owned business, and was first established in 1937.
